Hotel
Izulu is an exclusive retreat nestled on Africa's east coast,
Hotel Izulu regales in understated opulence among oceans of undulating
sugarcane.
Set in sub-tropical forest against a rugged coastline, the luxurious resort reveals
a side of Africa little seen by the international traveler.
Hotel details
Set on a hillside
with panoramic views of the lush sub-tropical dunes and shimmering
Indian Ocean,
Hotel Izulu is situated on the northern KwaZulu-Natal coast against a backdrop
of some of the most
breathtaking shoreline in Africa. A short drive along the coast from South
Africa’s
biggest shopping and
entertainment world, the resort is a superb starting-point for a luxurious
journey into Africa.
A
celebrated international executive chef personally selects the finest
local ingredients, creating unimagined
delights, each beautifully presented. The hotel cellar stocks many rare and sought
after South African vintages,
to be enjoyed by the bottle or glass. Dine in the opulent restaurant GiGi’s,
in the intimacy of your suite,
or at a table set in the charming wine cellar.
KwaZulu-Natal
offers a treasure of sights and sounds. Take a drive north to the world-renown
Hluhluwe
or Umfolozi Game Reserves. Inland, the Midlands Meander takes one through picturesque
countryside
to the magnificent Drakensberg Mountains. The Tom Weiskopf
designed course at
Zimbali is almost a
fairway’s drive from Hotel Izulu. The local coastline provides endless
golden sands and safe surf bathing.
Royal suite (honeymoon suite)
The
Royal Suite, in subtle tones of silver grey and deep plum,
is often used for honeymooners taking up the whole top floor of
the villa. A comfortable lounge with superb entertainment
facilities, dining room and open-plan bar where light snacks
can be prepared. A private courtyard with jacuzzi leads
from the suite.
About the Impilo Spa
Of the many charms of Izulu, one
is undoubtedly the ‘Impilo Spa’. Indulge in the most
glorious pampering sessions in their three treatment rooms that mirror
earth tones in terracotta and stone. Health lunches are served on
the terrace after treatments. Begin with an African Queen Smoothie
(orange, mango and yogurt) and follow with a delicious Health
Salad of frilly lettuce, cos, rocket, baby plum tomatoes, peppers,
portobellini mushrooms, pineapple and blood orange with a dressing
of pecan, citrus and chive.
Kathy Godwin, Spa Director of this
meticulous boutique suggests you relax in a double seater Jet Bath
with lingering aromatherapy oils. A Jet watertherapy steam shower is invigorating. Massages
are a must - try the Swedish or the Kahuna hot stone.
About the Wine Cellar
The
wine cellar is a splendid place to have an intimate dinner party. Hotel
Izulu's superb range of wines are very carefully selected. Wine lists
are detailed with vintages, areas as well as tasting notes and food matching
suggestions - most comprehensive and interesting to peruse - a good talking
point! Book 10 people for dinner and the wine cellar hire is free.
